While the fingerprint sensors in devices such as Samsung Galaxy S5 or HTC One Max are vulnerable to such attacks, the researchers highlighted that devices of Apple with Touch ID do not suffer these vulnerabilities. The discrepancy between the two types of devices is remarkable. Ultimately, vulnerable devices do not provide sufficient security to prevent other users from accessing our private data if we don't take concrete steps.
In the Touch ID, however, no information is transmitted without its corresponding encryption key. In that sense the proposal of the sensor of fingerprints of Apple is much more safe and reliable according to Zhang.
The exploits which hackers used for this type of threats already are known to Google, but first Android updates spend by each manufacturer to be carried out modifications specific for their devices, and there is where the main problem. There are so many manufacturers of Android phones and variants of devices, many will be outside security for legacy devices updates.
The solution is in the hands of each manufacturer
Now we have to wait for the latest updates for our model so that the patches arrive and our information is not at risk, although it is proven that several hundred thousand Android smartphones can be affected by this exploit.
Much of this year's Black Hat Security Conference focused on the security of mobile devices and how best to protect data and passwords from specific encryption and design measures. Hopefully Android manufacturers will take note soon and solve the problems of these fingerprint sensors.
